This year, we’ll again be observing Maundy Thursday with the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper, followed by a Tenebrae service. The Rev. Linda Chase will be preaching.
Tenebrae, known as the service of shadows, involves a series of scripture readings, after which candles are extinguished one by one, until the Sanctuary is in total darkness.
Because we’re having an evening Good Friday service for the first time this year, the Tenebrae readings will focus on the events of the night before Jesus’ crucifixion. The darkness we’ll experience is the darkness of his betrayal – and our betrayal of him as well.
Maundy Thursday is a beautiful and very meaningful service. For some, it’s their favorite worship service of the entire year. If you’ve never been to a Maundy Thursday service, make this year the one when you’ll try it out!
