Many thanks to all of you at Point Pleasant Presbyterian who have already sent household items to the InterfaithRISE office in Vineland, NJ. Our packages have begun to arrive and Herminia, the Volunteer Coordinator, says they are very much appreciated. It’s amazing how we’ve put our brains together and decided what we think a family will need to set up housekeeping in a new country when they have little more than the clothes on their backs. This is an update on what we have sent or intend to send: diapers, electric teapot, school supplies/bookbags for 8 children, vacuum cleaner, baby hats and blankets, microwave oven, Walmart gift cart, sheets, rug(s), 2 toasters and 2 sets of pots & pans.
Evidently, refugees from Ukraine will be arriving soon to add to the families already being resettled. For those who might have reservations about helping illegal refugees, Interfaith-RISE clients “come from the U.S. government programs created for various refugees–these programs are managed on the state level by agencies like ORR (Office of Refugee Resettlement). The state offices partner with local non-profits like Interfaith-RISE to funnel clients and service. All the clients I-RISE serves have a legal right to our support and our services, also a human right, at that,” according to Heminia.
Hopefully, you’ll join our congregation and share our enthusiasm for this mission project. If you use a company such as Amazon Prime, they will ship the item you purchase directly to I-RISE in Vineland free. Use the following address:
