Come join with others on three Tuesdays October 11, 18 and 25 at 11:00 in the Chittick Lounge or on Zoom as we discuss “Waking Up White: and Finding Myself in the Story of Race”. Written by Debby Irving this book is a moving personal account and a compelling invitation to learn. As a teacher and community activist the author had sought for years to foster inclusiveness and colorblindness as she strove to assist people of color. In this narrative account she comes to recognize the ways her well-intended attitudes actually perpetuated her ill-conceived ideas about race. Her journey calls to all of us to rethink and renew our ideas about race, drawing new insight through these reflections. We have scheduled a three week, one hour per week discussion period. Come to one or all three sessions as we together discuss this book and and our own ideas of how we might faithfully and conscientiously work and witness to social justice. Pastor Eileen will facilitate.
