Dear PPPC –
Rev. Frederick Buechner wrote, “Resurrection means the worst thing is never the last thing.” There’s no better way to say it, so I’ll write it twice, “Resurrection means the worst thing is never the last thing!” Alleluia! Amen.
For some of us, the worst thing is death. And Christ proclaims, no longer does death have the final word. Because Christ lives, we shall live also! But for most of us, when we read those wise and insightful words of a pastor, we think of our worst things now. I don’t know what your worst thing is…but I know it’s heavy to carry. There is good news here too, whatever your worst thing it, thanks be to God, it is not the last thing.
This Sunday is the third Sunday of Eastertide; allow me take this opportunity to remind you that Easter is not just one Sunday. It’s a season, a season that we, as believers, are in for 50 days. The celebration continues, don’t be tempted to move on too quickly. I would remind you, our culture knows how to anticipate an event, but we need to work on sustaining it!
One last remark – on Sunday we will welcome New Members during our worship service. I am grateful. I am grateful that we are a growing congregation. I’m grateful that people, people who’ve been coming here every Sunday for 60 years and people who walk through our doors for the first time ever, encounter the Risen Christ in worship and encounter the love of God through the welcome of those gathered. I encourage you, the next time you are in worship, introduce yourself to our newest members. I also encourage you, the next time you pray, pray for our newest members.
See you in church!
Yours for the journey,
Pastor Molly
