Busy Hands for Mission is a group of women who meet in the Fellowship Room on the first, fourth, and fifth Tuesday of each month to make items for others. We meet from 10 to 12 and enjoy having lunch together afterward.
Our projects include adult bibs, hospital gowns, and walker caddies which are given to the Visiting Nurses Association for their use. Baby hats and blankets are given to Jersey Shore Medical Center and Ocean Medical Center for newborn infants. Local nursing homes receive large and small walker caddies and lap robes. Dresses in various sizes are sent to Africa through the “Little Dresses for Africa” project. We also make the bags filled by our congregation with school supplies. Pillowcases are made and donated to Interfaith Hospitality Network and Crafty Fabrics, owned by Diane McColley. She distributes them to the children’s units at hospitals. Teddy bears are given to children staying at our church through the Interfaith Hospitality Network.
If you would like to be a part of these projects, we need material, yarn, bias bindings, and other supplies. We are accepting gift cards to Micheal’s and Joanne’s, baby and medium weight yarn, cotton or cotton/polyester blend material of at least a yard in length, and large pieces of flannel for the teddy bears. In addition, we have had a Christmas Shoppe of handmade items the last two years which enabled us to donate $1000 to fixing the church roof.
However our financial cupboard is now bare. We would gladly accept financial donations to enable us to continue helping others.
To join our group, for more information, or to donate, please contact the Church Office at (732) 899-0587 or stop by on the first, fourth, or fifth Tuesday in the Fellowship Room. We have something for you to do even if you don’t sew, knit, or crochet!
