I’ve watched some of the baseball playoffs these last few weeks. It seems that the teams who are still playing have some home run hitters, and a whole lot of teammates who don’t hit many home runs. The teams are full of players who hit doubles and singles. In other words, the best teams are made up of players who contribute according to their ability and the result is winning.
This sounds like the description of healthy churches, especially when we are discussing financial stewardship. And it’s why I’m asking all households to prayerfully approach increasing their commitment for 2026 by 1% of household income. Healthy churches have people capable of financially hitting homers, and they do so. But healthy churches also have many more singles and doubles hitters who step up and hit double and singles financially. Healthy congregations hit singles and doubles and home runs not to raise a budget. All hit singles, and doubles, and home runs to fulfill their calling, because it strengthens each player (contributor) spiritually, so that the team (church) is positioned to best serve our risen Lord.
So, let me ask you again: Will you prayerfully consider how your faithful stewardship response to Christ’s love for you impacts both your spiritual life and the work of Jesus Christ for our team here at PPPC? If your best is hitting a single, the team needs you. If your best is hitting a home run, the team needs you. Most importantly, we have the opportunity to continue being a team worthy of following Christ.
See you in church.
Yours for the journey,
Pastor Molly
