The Ocean County Chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) has announced that Keith Reilly has received the first Elsie Madsen Fischer Organ Education Grant. Keith, 13 years old, has been studying the organ on an informal basis for the past year with Sara Hoey. He will use the award to fund formal lessons with Josh Melson of Toms River. Keith will enter 8th grade at Memorial Middle School in September. He participates in the school’s 8th Grade Band, the Jazz Band, and Chorus, in addition to playing both the piano and the organ during church services. He is a budding composer as well, having written an anthem for the Dove Choir and an orchestral symphony. The grant is named for the founding dean of the AGO chapter, the late Elsie Madsen Fischer of Toms River, NJ. The grant program honors her memory by providing funds for organ studies which build the skills of church organists.
